Marao Kachina
The Marao Kachina was introduced in 1920 and is a figure of contradictions. It is said that the kachina came from the Zuni but all of its costumes and painting indicate that it was Navajo inspired. It wears on its head the tripot head gear belonging to the Mamzrau, a wonman's society. However, beneath the woman's headdress, on the cheeks of the mask are symbols of war. The kachina measures 21 in. high by 10 in. wide.
