Freeform Shaped Bisbee Stone Bolo Tie Set In Sterling Silver
Navajo silversmith Oliver Smith created this freeform shaped Bisbee stone set in reticulated silver to create this unique bolo tie. It features fancy hand stamped silver tips. Bolo tie measures 30 in. long with larger stone measuring 1 1/2 in. long by 1 1/2 in. wide. Middle silver piece has one oval of turquoise measuring 2 1/2 in. long by 1 1/4 in. wide. Dangle stones measure 1 1/4 in. long by 1/2 in. wide. The Bisbee copper mine was closed many years ago. The turquoise from this old mine is one of the most desired throughout the world today. It is sometimes referred to as the “lunch box” turquoise because when the copper miners found a piece of turquoise they carried it away in their lunch boxes. The only source for rough uncut Bisbee turquoise today is from some old miner’s back yard. The Turquoise Buffalo owners feel very fortunate to have acquired some rough stone and had it cut by one of the best in the business, Leonard King. Today Bisbee turquoise jewelry is very rare and very expensive. Reticulated silver is made by taking a sheet of smooth silver and dropping silver particles on it. Then the sheet of silver is heated with a torch creating a rough and unique look. Bisbee Turquoise is a highly collectible turquoise.
